Valpak Insight Platform - Data for sustainability
The Insight Platform provides you with a clear view of your product and supplier data, enabling businesses to report on and manage performance, make informed decisions and demonstrate due diligence with regard to compliance and sustainability. The Platform consists of three different suites (Product Data, Sustainable Development and Global View) which allow users to easily review and interrogate their business’s data using different reporting functions. Depending on priorities, there is a choice of suites to enhance reporting.

Packaging Analysis Services
Our Packaging Analysis services utilise our vast database of product packaging, allowing businesses to see how their packaging compares to that of similar product packaging and benchmark performance. Valpak can compare product or overall category packaging data against the industry average and industry best in class, so businesses can compare progress. Our database is comprised of data for over 44 million SKUs, with data constantly being collected and updated by our expert team who weigh packaging and analyse data provided by suppliers. This allows businesses to compare their performance against multiple metrics such as the weight, materials, and formats of packaging used by the rest of their industry, as well as metrics such as recyclability of packaging and recycled content. These unique insights can support businesses in terms of highlighting where they are performing above average or showing areas where they can focus to make tangible changes. For example, we have helped companies identify material savings through light weighing packaging, or identifying packaging you could use that is more recyclable.

Lifecycle Assessments
Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) measures the environmental impacts of your products (including packaging) over their entire life cycle, often termed cradle-to-grave. Our service is flexible and can consider a wide range of environmental issues from carbon footprinting to water use impacts, land use, and ecotoxicity. Our bespoke LCA service can also give you the complete set of environmental indicators you need to develop Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for your products. Life Cycle Assessment provides an organisation with a comprehensive understanding of its environmental impact and allows the organisation to make informed decisions about how it can improve its environmental performance i.e. LCA ensures that a company doesn’t make an improvement in one area at the expense of another. ife Cycle Assessments can deliver lots of benefits but they are also technically challenging and time-consuming. We have a team of qualified LCA practitioners that have been trained to the highest standard which means we can ease that burden allowing you to concentrate on your core business. LCA is an internationally standardised methodology – ISO 14044 (and equivalent PAS 2050) and our practitioners follow the principles of this methodology. Our LCA tools and modelling utilise the latest available environmental impact metrics to carry out assessments. We can carry out streamlined and comprehensive LCA studies for you, all of which can be tailored to suit your specific needs/objectives.

Environmental Reporting and Corporate Social Responsibility
ith consumers and stakeholders placing an increased focus on sustainability and environment, many organisations are looking at ways they can minimise their impact on environment. Corporate Social Responsibility can help an organisation to demonstrate a deeper commitment to reducing its environmental impact. Environmental Reporting is the concept of brand owners and manufacturers taking environmental responsibility for their products and the associated packaging through their whole life cycle. This can involve activities such as: designing products for reuse or recyclability, understanding the impact on the environment and taking this into account in the decision making process, creating take back programmes and arranging end of life collections that facilitate circularity or achieve recycling A big part of Environmental Reporting also involves engaging and encouraging the public to take responsible action regarding your products. We have a valuable network of contacts and relationships in the public and private sector to enable Environmental Reporting projects to happen. We will encourage your business to work in partnership, which means that expertise from each sector can be used to collectively produce positive social, economic and environmental impacts. This unique partnership approach generates a variety of Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) opportunities. We can also help facilitate the set-up of the infrastructure for the project and find the most workable and cost-effective solution for you.

Packaging Technology Consultancy
The threat of climate change is generating an increased consumer desire to purchase products that have minimal effect on the environment and is driving the implementation of extended producer responsibility (EPR) legislation across the globe. If businesses don’t act now to evaluate the packaging and products they are placing on markets, they could be left behind in terms of environmental performance, which could damage their reputation and increase their environmental compliance costs. It is hoped that packaging legislation reforms will provide businesses with an opportunity to gain in-depth insights from their data, which they can use to make positive changes to packaging. We provide a Packaging Technology Consultancy service, which is underpinned by packaging experts and robust data, and forms part of our wider Packaging Analysis service. Our expert consultants will: Process map the journey of your products – cradle-to-grave approach. Document current packaging specifications (board grades, microns, polymer types, etc.) Re-engineer packaging to mitigate packaging, operational, and EPR costs Identify quick wins – opportunities to reduce, reuse, standardise. Help you to plan for the future (responsible sourcing, EPR, and ESG reporting, etc)
