Vioneo
About us
Vioneo aims to pioneer the defossilisation of the chemical sector by using green methanol to produce fossil-free polypropylene and polyethylene at a commercial scale. The first plant will use green methanol to produce app. 300,000 tonnes of fossil-free virgin plastics. Vioneo is owned by A.P. Moller Holding.
Vioneo has designed a production method which will utilise well proven technologies in an innovative way. This will ensure that its plastics are produced without any fossil feedstock. In addition, the production facilities will be powered by renewable energy, eliminating CO2 emissions from production.
The name Vioneo evokes the company’s commitment to embark on the journey to defossilise and decarbonise the materials and chemicals sector. In Latin, “vio” means “journey” or “way” and “neo” means “new”. The ”o” in “neo” also symbolises “zero”. This means the name translates to “new way” or “the journey to net zero”.
Sustainable Materials: They make polypropylene (PP) and polyethylene (PE) without oil or gas.
Green Feedstock: They use green methanol made with biogenic CO2, replacing fossil fuels entirely.
Drop-in Solutions: Their plastics perform identically to traditional plastics, fitting easily into current manufacturing systems.
Renewable Energy: Their manufacturing facilities run on clean power to completely eliminate production emissions.
Environmental Impact: Each planned manufacturing complex aims to produce roughly 300,000 tonnes of plastic, avoiding 1.5 million tonnes CO2 emissions every year. Or every kt of plastic produced saves more than 6kt of CO2 emissions.
