Paper-plug
Blue Ocean Closures introduces Paper-Plug™, a new generation of integrated fiber-based openings expanding what paper packaging can do. The new opening and dispensing concept, combines a fiber internal screw closure with a direct interface to carton and corrugated board structures. Adding to the leading position in fiber-based screw caps and lids, Blue Ocean Closures’ Paper-Plug concept opens up new possibilities for convenient, low-cost and low-carbon packaging across food, home care and a broad range of future applications. Unlike traditional approaches that often rely on tear openings, separate plastic fitments or more complex assemblies, Paper-Plug™ is designed to integrate directly into board-based packaging structures, creating a new route toward highly functional renewable packaging solutions while maintaining simplicity and cost efficiency. Consumers love convenience. By combining low cost fiber forming with direct integration into paperboard, the concept enables packaging formats that previously have often depended on glass, metal or plastic, while creating opportunities for new consumer experiences and new product architectures. Paper-Plug™ is enabled by Blue Ocean Closures’ proprietary forming technology, developed to produce advanced fiber components with low energy consumption and at industrial speed. Potential application areas include: Dry and frozen foods and ingredients Supplements and health products Home care and cleaning products Refill and reuse systems E-commerce packaging Premium cartons and hybrid board formats New convenience packaging concepts previously difficult to achieve in paperboard

Trays for salmon
Nature trays by Rottneros are a revolutionary solution to replace plastic packaging with a more sustainable option. Made from high-qualitry fsc certified fibres produced from renewable forests in EU, our trays are fully recyclable in the paper stream, meeting the Cepi standard (4ever egreen). Our trays can reduce the plastic content up to more that 90% while maintaining the same reliable shelf life as traditional packaging. Perfect to preserve food in map and skin packaging, our trays can withstand mricrowave and oven heating applications. No use of harmfull chemical (PFAS free).

Trays for skin
Nature trays by Rottneros are a revolutionary solution to replace plastic packaging with a more sustainable option! With minimized plastic content favoring natural wood fibers from sustainably managed forests and circular economy, our trays hold all the features needed for case ready meat packing – hygiene, lightness yet robustness, various packing styles (map, stretch seal, flowpack, heat sealing …), personalizing options… In addition to premium appearance and functionality, our trays stand out for several key reasons: • Sustainable Material Sourcing: Sawmill wood waste is used to create the pulp for our trays, minimizing wood waste and promoting sustainable forestry practices. All material is sourced from sustainably managed forests very close to the mills. • Significant Plastic Reduction: Trays can be sealed in map and skin to achieve exceptional performance with minimal plastic content (less than 10%) is a significant breakthrough, enabling extended shelf life and microwave use while minimizing plastic waste. • Enhanced Recyclability: o Standard Recyclability: Our trays are designed for standard paper recycling streams, contributing to a circular economy. Our trays have been assessed for recyclability according to the CEPI 2 method, demonstrating their compatibility with standard paper recycling streams. o Improved Recyclability with Liner Separation: The option for removable liners (PP, PE, and bio-based) further enhances recyclability by allowing for easy separation and proper recycling of both the tray and the liner. Bio-based liners can be composted, while the clean fibers go into paper recycling. • Focus on Sustainability: Production processes prioritize renewable energy and closed-loop water systems, minimizing environmental impact. • Chemical-Free Approach: Our trays are free from harmful substances like PFAS, PVC, inks, and other prohibited chemicals, ensuring food safety and environmental responsibility.

Print-ready trays with premium surface
Nature by Rottneros trays express the authentic colour and purity of Scandinavian wood fibres, combined with a carefully engineered outer surface. Unlike conventional moulded fibre trays, the external layer is refined to deliver a controlled, consistent texture that feels natural yet premium to the touch. This engineered paper surface is not only tactile—it is functional. It is designed to act as a high-quality substrate for multiple marking and printing technologies, enabling brand, product and regulatory information to be applied directly on the fibre. Depending on the application and investment level, trays can be personalised using digital printing, inkjet printing or laser marking, each offering different visual outcomes. Critically, this approach supports packaging reduction. No separate labels are required and, in the case of laser marking, no inks are used at all. The tray itself becomes the information carrier—supporting traceability and emerging requirements such as the Digital Product Passport, where each tray can be uniquely identified and digitally linked without adding extra materials. The result is a fibre-based tray where material authenticity, surface engineering and regulatory readiness are integrated by design.
