Parkside, in collaboration with the New Forest Fruit Company, has unveiled an innovative home compostable flexible packaging solution for dried strawberries. The packaging uses Parkside’s Park2Nature material, which is plant-based, GMO and PLA-free, and certified compostable within 26 weeks in normal composting conditions.

This aligns with the New Forest Fruit Company’s sustainable ‘plant to packet’ approach, reducing the carbon footprint. The collaboration aims to optimize crop utilization through pulse and freeze drying techniques. The initiative demonstrates Parkside’s commitment to sustainability and aligns with their previous efforts, including home-compostable coffee packaging and recyclable sausage roll packaging.

This development highlights the industry’s focus on eco-friendly solutions, supported by other innovations like an OPRL-approved paper-recyclable absorbent pad and researchers at the Thammasat University in Thailand have developed an edible antimicrobial coating to delay the rotting process for strawberries.
